First Entry in the Moonlight Series of Medianoche Vanilla Moonlight started as two casks of Imperial Stout aged for 14 months in freshly emptied 19 yr Elijah Craig bourbon barrels. The blend was aged for an additional 6 months in two freshly emptied experimental vanilla extract barrels, which were virgin barrels toasted and charred to bourbon barrel specs but used exclusively to age vanilla extract produced from Vanuatuan and Ecuadorian vanilla beans. After a combined 20 months of barrel aging, the beer was finished on the most complex blend of vanilla we have used to date, consisting of whole beans originating from Vanuatu, Ecuador, Madagascar, Congo, Mexico, and Sri Lanka.
