Dark Apprentice is a dark ale that combines three different beer styles. It was made from the second runnings of its mentor, Dark Side Imperial Stout, which gives the name small beer. However, it came out stronger than we predicted and that's why we use parentheses for "small". Even though Dark Apprentice is an ale, it was cold-conditioned (lagered) for a long time to make the beer even ligther and crisper. The end product is a lagered dark "small" ale.
