Both Southern Cross and Waimea hops can trace back their breeding history to the humble British Fuggle hop, both bringing heady lemon zestiness and pine needle stickiness. The malt mix brings some pleasing bready and water cracker qualities with the oats adding that classic soft texture of a Hazy Pale. Found in Auckland NZ, Lion Rock, or Te Piha as it was known to the Te Kawaerau tangata whenua (people and hosts of the land), is so named in reference to the patterns of waves which break on the front of the rock, as on the prow of a canoe.
