For the Brew Day on 8th January 2018, the guests of honour included four generations of Batemans master brewers – Dennis Hartley (1959-1975), Ken Dixon (1976-1984), Martin Cullimore (1985-2017) and the current brewer, Scott Lawrence, who took over the reins last year. It was Ken Dixon who crafted the first brew back in 1978. Whilst retaining its unique flavour, this award-winning brew has been re-launched as a slightly stronger 4.8 ABV. Back in the day it won CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain and went on to win additional awards including Champion Best Bitter and Champion Premium Beer.
