“You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.” When you work with Nelson Sauvin, you must never rush. Scott was lucky enough to be one of the first in the country to rub fresh Nelson hops while working for Other Half, and the aroma absolutely blew his mind. ⁣ The luck continued when we purchased a fresh crop of Nelson a couple of months ago, but choosing to do our first single hop with Nelson wasn’t an easy decision. A single hop beer is incredibly challenging for a brewer since there is no hiding from the characteristic that defines the hop, and Nelson is not for everyone. So we used a simple blend of Proximity Malts for our base and crushed the kettle with only Nelson hops, and the result was wort that tasted like Fruit Loops. ⁣ As the beer matured we didn’t overdo the dry hop, yet the beer transformed into an interplay of earthy sweet resin and overripe fruit with an almost banana undertone. We couldn’t be happier with our first single hop series, but don’t drink too many, Miracle Max nor Dr. Frankenstein will be around to cure your hangover in the morning.
