Brussels Calling is our anniversary beer, brewed every year on December 22, the day of the very first brew in our new Brussels installations in 2010. The base is always a blond beer, 6.5% ABV, but we change the hops every year. This year we go back to Germany, with new varieties literally selected on the field. The result is a “Belgian IPA”, in which balance is king and - weird but true - room is left for fermentation flavours.
The bouquet of the 2017 edition is intensely exotic (bergamot, grapefruit, kumquat, peach) and floral, with a light sulphur note that gives it character. These flavours get longer and more intense in the taste, paired with a nice malt base, and they are structured by an intense but elegant bitterness, that reinforces the freshness of the beer. In the end the fruity character merges with a long and dry bitterness.
The experts will recognise in its beautiful haziness a massive dry hopping!
