Porter is a dark style originally from England and named for the dockworkers (Porters) who drank these beers. Well, Germany also has many famous ports. So we named our porter after the workers who had the dirtiest and most dangerous job on Hamburg’s docks, the Kedelklopper. These were the guys who had to go inside the kettle of the boats to clean them while the ships were docked. Because the echoes in the kettles made for loud, horrible acoustics, the Kedelklopper even developed their own language, sort of like a pig latin version of the normal Hamburg dialect at the time. Supposedly, this made it easier to understand each other in the kettles. Over time, the Kedelkloppersprook, as the language was called, became a secret language used amongst these workers. In honor of these robust men, we have a delicious robust porter. The Robust Porter features more chocolate malt and increased hop levels compared to a classic brown porter. 6.0% with rich chocolate, toffee, and caramel notes. Perfect after a hard day’s work in London, Hamburg, or Berlin.
