Fugger the Rich was an extremely influential German merchant in the 15th and 16th centuries, and one of the wealthiest people in modern history. Originally from Augsburg he built a business empire across Europe dominating the mining industry amongst other trades and leveraging his wealth to finance (and influence) emperors and the Catholic Church. He was also a philanthropist, most famously building the world's first social housing in his home city.
